Limitations and Disclaimers:
This is the personal evaluation by Kenneth L. Dugas MBA,
CPA when asked to find the best Hosting service for several
domains. Most of the domains would be small (less than 5 - 10
MB). The sites must be easy to build and maintain by non
professionals. We will use Microsoft's Frontpage97 to build and
maintain these sites. FrontPage would also allow surveys and
questionnaires to be built and filled out on-line. Under
Microsoft.com/FrontPage there is a listing of all of the hosting
services that have added the FrontPage extensions and registered
these extensions with Microsoft. Note: If the site refers to
Version 1.1 this is the Frontpage95 Version 2.0 is FrontPage97.
If the hosting sites does not say Version 2.0 or FrontPage97 it
probably still has the old extensions for FP95. Many of the FP97
bots do not work properly with the Version 1.1 extensions. Be
further warned that many sites promote having the latest
extensions and do not. Example: On March 10, 1997, Mindspring
promotes that they have the version 2.0 extensions but further
research into the technical support sections show that they hoped
to have the 2.0 extensions installed on March 24, 1997. I have
been pushing that provider for well over a month because of
problems with accounts hosted on their site (including formerly
this one, but not any more).
A Personal Note: Poor and unpleasant service from Mindspring is
what forced this study. I am sure they have reasons but they
could be nice at those prices.
With the need to find the best hosting site for several domains and experience with poor service from a high priced service that was suppose to provide good service, I decided to review all of the hosting services listed by Microsoft and compare what each said. The following table is the result of the initial review the sites with a "Y" in the first column are worth additional review. Many sites provided very little price and service information. Many of the ISP's were adding FrontPage hosting as a service for its local customers and not as separate services. Many of the sites were "BAD"; ugly and providing little if any information. In many cases the link takes you into the site to a page explaining the benefits of FrontPage. A note to Hosting Services: If you are coming from the FrontPage Listing the link should take one to the hosting and pricing information we already know about the feature of FrontPage.
Hint: If the site has the default FrontPage logo in the hosting list, the Web Presence Provided has not even spent the time to build a simple logo for themselves. I did not find a single site that had not built their own logo worth the time it took to load the site.

Update as of March 18, 1997, 21 of the listed sites the link will no longer verify. Either the pages have been removed or the servers is down.
